Tibet railway start from Xining of Qinghai province to Lhasa in Tibet of 1956 kilometers in length. It is the highest elevation and the longest length and crossing the ice and slush plateau railway in the world. The length of the section from Xining to Geermu is 814 kilometers. It was finished in 1979 and was used in 1984.The length of the second section from Geermu to Lhasa is 1142 kilometers. It was started to be build in 2001 June 26.It was finished in 2005 October 15 and will be use in 2006 July 1.
One UK famous journalist comments it as follows:"The railway across the roof of the world.There were 5000m-high mountains to climb,12 km-wide valleys to bridge, hundreds of kilometers of ice and slush that could never support tracks and trains. How could anyone tunnel through rock at minus 30 or lay rails when the least exertion sends you reaching for the oxygen bottle?"
